Mayflower Inn, Connecticut

It’s no doubt that being in nature brings inspiration, and this luxurious country haven hidden amongst the winding roads of quaint towns in Litchfield County was just the relaxing getaway I hoped for!

Welcome to the Mayflower Inn.

I read about Mayflower a few years back when I found out it had been acquired by Auberge Resort Collection (originally built in the late 1800’s) but what quickly peaked my interest was finding out that the original inn and the surrounding area served as inspiration for the original script for the Gilmore Girls, a series I grew up watching with my mum.

Located in Washington, I am told it is where the New Yorkers go to get away from the big city, and now I can see why! Nestled on 58 acres, it was an easy two hour drive north of Manhattan. Surrounded by quintessential New England towns brimming with beauty, warmth and small-town camaraderie.

The property recently was renovated and reimagined by Celerie Kemble, and it is as charming as it gets!

Each room filled with character of its own, whimsical yet filled with tradition.

Upon our arrival, we were kindly greeted with a little bubbly and escorted to our guest room.

The room featured an artisan-made four-poster bed, really the princess bed of my dreams!

Along with a lovely curated collection of antiques, playful paper mâché flowers and drapery that matched the bedskirt, and I mustn’t forget the patio overlooking the gardens.

I can only imagine what it looks like come summertime in full bloom or the richness of the colours in the fall!

I admire the mix of organic materials and antiques used throughout the property along with the addition of pattern.

Any space that combines floral chintz with Indian block prints, and for contrast Gustavian pops of colour is fine by me!

We had breakfast in what they call “The Garden Room” which is wrapped in hand painted botanicals, aperitifs in the famous yellow living room beside a cozy fire and dinners in the “Tap Room” which is the kind of space that feels like an old English bar with a bit more youth. The food as exceptional as the spaces.

Crisp Spring mornings were spent walking around the property, slow afternoons recharging at The Well (the incredible spa), and s’more treats by the warm glow of the nightly bonfires. Plus, I cannot forget to mention, I had the pleasure of meeting influential designer, Nate Berkus! He was wonderful and I was totally blushing.

It really was the perfect 2 night retreat!

In addition, if you are an antique advocate like myself I recommend driving into the nearby towns and exploring the many boutiques. A few I enjoyed most were, Mill House Antiques, Jeffrey Tillou Antiques and Martell and Suffin Antiques.
